Breath In

March 6th, 2005

Take a moment to breath in. Inhale. Exhale.

Again.

C’mon, just once more.

Good, you’ve slowed down enough now, we can talk.

A friend I met during my travels told me that she is missing my blogging that dumped by heart instead of my brain. Looking at this blog statistics it seems that the world started to read me when I went to work at MIT. Quantity vs. quality?

I didn’t find the time to blog over several months… I guess that shows something. Also, the quality of my pictures dropped dramatically and I don’t find myself looking at squaring details, craving (and carving?) shadows. The challenges are draining me away, the rational mind is winning, the cold winter is freezing my warmth.

Is it worth it?

Breathing.

When climbing a mountain, there is a moment when you don’t think about anything but what you are doing, your next step, your next lift, balance, respect. Some say I have A.D.D., some others say I’m just a lazy ass, some more say I’m a spoiled brat. Pick yours.

I just love those rare moments when I can let my body breath, I can let time flow thru as water that runs on my skin and stare at a window for hours, looking at nothing in particular.

Once somebody said to me that I look like a candle that is burning from both ends… I feel like that sometimes, sacrificing duration for lightness, confusing comfort for balance.

Sure, it yields powerful results, impresses people and feeds me, but the prices to pay for all this are way hidden. Prices that are not only for me to pay, but also for the people that love me. Egocentrism and a deforming meter makes you really think that it’s the room that today has a different size!

Went to the W3C Tech Plannary last week. Spoke in front of them, showed them our work, and got a question from Sir TimBL himself. Feels good eh? Sure. It does. But look around you, yeah you: how much have you sacrificed for that success of yours? How much are you willing to sacrifice? How long does it take you to freak out if power goes out?

I’m a stimulation addict.

It’s time I admit my dependency and start finding a cure, a balance, before it’s too late, before this snow freezes me, before my candle runs out and all I can project to others is darkness.

Pictures of Isla Mujeres, Mexico

January 3rd, 2005

First of all, happy new year everyone (or Buon Anno, as we say from where I come from).

Here is a selection of the 700 pictures that Jessica and I took at Isla Mujeres, small island in front of Cancun, in Mexico.

Enjoy
